Drones are a way to combat ISIS

quadcopters uk shop

While the United States, Russia, and other countries want to use more modern aircraft, Ukraine does not have the same resources to train its soldiers on these aircraft. The Ukrainians can get training on planes and vehicles in Western countries, but not the same on drones here. Drones are more accessible to Ukrainians who are used to older equipment such as trucks. Drones are easy to use by soldiers, as they do not require pilots. Drones have a similar interface to video games, making them easy to use.

Aerorozvidka

Ukrainian military employs a unique method to fight ISIS in eastern Ukraine. They use octocopters that are equipped with thermal cameras for nighttime operations. Some drones can even light up columns and are equipped with anti-tank weapons. These drones are very maneuverable and can hold up to 11 lbs of payload. Small size allows drones to fly low over targets, dropping munitions.

Originally an IT enthusiast group, Aerorozvidka has become a military air reconnaissance unit. Although the organization started as a civil drone company, it grew into a fully-fledged unit with its head. The Ukrainian government banned Russian military aircraft from entering the country because of export controls. Since many of the components of the drones are manufactured in the US, Aerorozvidka relies on donations and crowdfunding to help keep the company going.

Switchblade

The U.S. military provides Ukraine with armed Swaitchblade drones. These can be used to strike Russian tanks up to a mile away. These unmanned aircraft vehicles were created by the US Air Force in response a Ukrainian request. John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesperson, stated that more than 120 of these machines are currently being sent to Ukraine. There is not yet any information about how the Switchblades are used in the conflict with Ukraine.

The Switchblade drone is small and easy to launch from a tube. It has a range 40 km. The Switchblade, unlike Bayraktar drones can strike a Russian convoy up to 6 miles away. These small aircraft are easy to set up during conflicts like the Ukraine. The Switchblade can fly faster than the Bayraktar which is currently the U.S. ally.

Russian kamikaze drones

Recently, the US announced a $800 million military aid package to Ukraine. Part of that package is the delivery of 121 unmanned aircraft, called "Phoenix Ghosts," which are intended to terrorize Russian forces. These unmanned aircraft are designed to fly over large areas for between 30 and 40 minutes. They are equipped both with warheads as well as cameras. Switchblade is one such drone. It's a hovering munition measuring 5.5 pounds, and it can eliminate armored vehicles as well as tanks.

These small, light aircrafts come equipped with a powerful, low flight gimbal which allows them to operate from either air, ground, or water. In a conflict like this, any advantage an opponent has over the other side in the aerial battle is important, and the use of Russian kamikaze drones is a direct threat to that advantage. This capability will prove to be critical for Ukraine's defense, since it can break Russian sieges as well as attack command-and-control centers. These capabilities would be a huge liability for both the sides but a small drone could prove to be an asset on the battlefield. Ukraine may emerge victorious.

U.S. loitering drones

Russia has begun integrating its ZALA KYB loitering munitions into the military arsenal of the country. These drones can be used in the same way as bazookas to carry out lethal loitering operations. These autonomous killing machines may be more common in black markets if loitering drones are used. This is something observers and pundits are concerned about. So what can America do to stop this happening?

Kirby reports that the U.S. government dispatched more then 121 Switchblade loitering drones to Ukraine to support Kiev's fight against Russian forces. The Switchblade drone weighs 5.5 pounds and can hover for up to thirty to forty minutes. It is fitted with a camera and a small warhead. It's intended mission is to attack the opposition forces in Ukraine.
